A Constellation of Memoir with Susan Rowe

This workshop will meet on Friday October 28th,Nov. 4th, Nov. 11th, Nov. 18th, Dec. 2nd and Dec. 9th at The Cabin from 9:30am – 12:30pm.

We live life as a series of moments, says memoirist Abigail Thomas. “With luck (and later a lot of hard work) throwing them up in the air can make a kind of constellation.”

In this class we’ll look at extraordinary examples of memoir to see how it’s possible to write our life stories as a series of moments. Then we’ll practice writing in different styles, voices, and formats to shape those stories into beautiful constellations. This class is for would-be memoirists who don’t know where to begin, who worry writing their life story might turn into a life sentence, or for anyone who longs to explore personal narrative as a way to discover our shared human experience.

Writers of all abilities and backgrounds are welcome. Our objectives will be to:

  • Learn the craft and techniques of storytelling
  • Read exemplary memoirs
  • Understand the myriad of ways to write memoir
  • Affirm the value and art of memoir writing
  • Write each week so your personal memoir is underway!
