Surel’s Place and The Cabin are proud to offer this workshop with Zachary Schomburg, the author of a novel, Mammother (Featherproof, 2017) and four books of poems published by Black Ocean. He is the editor and publisher of Octopus Books, an independent poetry press. He lives in Portland, Oregon.
In this workshop, we’ll look specifically at some of the ways out of a poem, and how some of those ways out are more successful than others. We’ll think about poems as paths that lead toward a grand exit. Our discussion will center around examples provided by the instructor, and a few generative exercises with poem-endings in mind.
