The Cabin’s Readings & Conversations will bring “new wave” graphic novelist Marjane Satrapi to The Egyptian Theatre on April 15. Author of Persepolis and Persepolis 2, and director of the award-winning documentary film based on the books, Ms. Satrapi visits Boise from Paris. Single tickets available beginning March 24. Ides Of March Kicks Off The Big Read

The Cabin will host a gathering of representatives from book clubs throughout the Treasure Valley called The Ides of March to kick off this year’s Big Read. An initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts, The Cabin will coordinate community-wide activities, events, and celebrations surrounding the book My Antonia, by Willa Cather. A publication of book selections for the year from each book group will be available. Saturday, March 15, from 2 p.m.- 4 p.m.

Dick Dorworth, weekly columnist at the Ketchum Idaho Mountain Express, is the author of Night Driving: Invention of the Wheel and Other Blues. Dorworth is the1963 holder of the speed skiing world record and in 2001 was honored by the International Skiing History members with its Lifetime Achievement Award in Journalism. His articles have appeared in "Ski, Skiing" and the "Mountain Gazette through the 1960's, '70's and '80's. Thursday, March 13, 7:30p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

How to choose a good book
People often ask what qualities make a book a good candidate for book discussion. Probably the most important criteria are that the book be well written, have an interesting plot, and three-dimensional characters. Good books for discussion present the author's view of an important truth and sometimes send a message to the reader. A good book-discussion book often stays in the reader's mind long after the book is finished and the discussion is over. More »
