IDAHO WRITING CAMPS
The Cabin's award-winning writing camps offer inspirational experiences for youth going into grades 3-12, as well as adults. Camps are offered throughout the summer in Boise, Hailey and Twin Falls. For a complete class schedule and to register for camp, click here.
IDAHO GAVE! The Cabin was thrilled to be part of the first annual Idaho Gives, a day of giving in support of Idaho nonprofits. Over 6192 donors gave to nearly 420 nonprofit organizations with gifts totaling $578,735! Your support ensures the continuation of our award-winning programs - bringing world-renowned writers to Boise, placing professional writers in classrooms and juvenile detention centers, and creating summer camp experiences that establish a student's lifelong love affair with words.
THE CABIN WELCOMES BRITT UDESEN
The Cabin has concluded its national search for a new Executive Director with the hire of Britt Udesen. Udesen has been with Sun Valley Center for the Arts for eight years, where she served as Director of Education and Humanities. She founded a nationally-recognized lecture series and collaborated with regional non-profits, arts organizations and school districts to respond to community needs.
READ ME TREASURE VALLEY
Ada Community Library will launch this year’s one-book program, Read Me Treasure Valley: Visions of Idaho, with a kick-off and celebration at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 1. The event will take place at the Oregon Trail Reserve, 4500 E Lake Forest Dr., just northwest of the Hwy 21 Bridge. The event will feature remarks from Boise City Mayor David Bieter, Idaho Statesman Columnist, Dan Popkey, and Associate State Librarian, Marj Hooper. Students from Les Bois Junior High will participate and receive books for their school library.
Read Me Treasure Valley is presented in partnership with Boise Public Library, Boise State University’s Story Initiative, The Cabin, and the Idaho Statesman and supported by grants from the Idaho Humanities Council and the Boise City Arts and History Department. Drop-in Writing Workshop
The Cabin’s mission to inspire a love of writing comes alive with a free writing workshop held at The Cabin’s historic building next to the Boise Public Library. The workshop is offered on the first Monday of each month from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. If you can’t make it to The Cabin you can still enjoy the lessons and ideas that teaching-writer Adrian Kien provides. We post all his lesson plans on VirtualCabinIdaho.com.
The Cabin thanks...
our members and contributors for their tremendous support over the past year. Your generosity helps us in our mission to inspire and celebrate a love of reading, writing and discourse throughout the region.
We don’t say it often enough: Many thanks to the City of Boise which generously provides the wonderful log cabin (utilities and ground maintenance) where THE CABIN creates and executes our programs. Administrative offices, programs, workshops and meetings all take place on this property, which was carefully restored by THE CABIN to inspire reading, writing and discourse in our community. Words Work Wonders … and so does the City of Boise!
In addition to this website, we have launched a new site that features fun, interactive content for kids, for teens, for adults – for anyone who believes in the power of words. Please take a few seconds to visit VIRTUALCABINIDAHO.COM to see videos, photos and blogs.
