Mark your calendars: The Cabin is introducing a new witty, wise and wacky game show spoof, “Celebrities in Jeopardy,” taking place February 24, 2012, at The Egyptian Theatre. Doors open at 6:45 PM and the event begins at 7:30 PM. This will be The Cabin’s only annual benefit event in 2012—a fabulous way to support our many programs while you have some fun.

 

Celebrated authors Tony Doerr and Al Heathcock will emcee the event’s over-the-top proceedings, with Judge Steve Trott handing down formal rulings on answers from local celebrity contestants Mark Junkert, Peter Morrill, Bob Kustra, Kathy Kustra, Cherie Buckner-Webb, Margaret Montrose Stigers, Ken Bass and Tim Johnstone. new publication opportunity for idaho writers

The Cabin is now accepting submissions for the first edition of Writers in the Attic, a new digital anthology that will showcase work from local authors. We're accepting fiction or nonfiction stories, 1,ooo words or less, on the subject of a room. Entries will be accepted through January 31, 2012.

 

UPDATE, 12/6/11: We are no longer charging an entry fee or awarding money for accepted entries. Please see the updated guidelines. Manuscripts must be free of personal information to allow for blind judging. Entries will be read and considered by a team of professional writers and editors. A submission form along with the full list of rules and guidelines is available by clicking on WITA Guidelines and WITA Submission Form.

 

IDAHO WRITING CAMPS ANTHOLOGY

Don’t forget to pick up your anthologies! Words Work Wonders, the perfect-bound anthology of poetry and prose written by students in the 2011 IDAHO WRITING CAMPS, is now available. Each student who attended camps in summer 2011 gets one free copy which can be picked up at The Cabin during business hours (Mon-Fri, 9-5). You can also purchase extra copies at The Cabin or call us at 208.331.8000 and have them mailed to you for an extra $3. Anthologies were mailed to students who attended Twin Falls or Hailey camps.

Chris Abani at Readings & Conversations

Starting in February: Drop-in Writing Workshop Moves to First Monday

The Cabin’s mission to inspire a love of writing comes alive with a free writing workshop held at The Cabin’s historic building next to the Boise Public Library. Starting Monday, February 6, 2012, the workshop will move to the first Monday of each month, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. If you can’t make it to The Cabin you can still enjoy the lessons and ideas that teaching-writer Adrian Kien provides. We post all his lesson plans on VirtualCabinIdaho.com.

 

THE CABIN IS A COMMUNITY PARTNER FOR UPCOMING EDUCATION SERIES

The Cabin is a community partner with the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation, which is sponsoring a series of education lecture and community discussions this fall. The ED Sessions are intended to “elevate the education dialogue with fresh inspiration, facts and discovery." Free lectures at the Egyptian Theatre will include Sir Ken Robinson (Sept. 27), Mike Rowe (Jan. 24) and Sal Khan (May 1). Other community partners include Junior Achievement, Treasure Valley YMCA, Lee Pesky Learning Center and the Idaho Community Foundation. For more information, click here.
