
Readings & Conversations is The Cabin's annual series presenting nationally-acclaimed literary figures sharing their work, thoughts about their work, and perspectives on important issues of our time. The program offers a view of our world through writers' eyes, shaped by their imaginations, fired by their passions, and illuminated by questions from our audience community. ABRAHAM VERGHESE Abraham Verghese is a best-selling writer, physician and professor at the Stanford University School of Medicine. Cutting for Stone, his epic first novel, was published in 2009 and spent more than two years as a bestseller on The New York Times Paperback Fiction list. Dr. Verghese is widely known for his advocacy on behalf of patients, and as a lecturer on the topics of medicine, physician-patient relationships and writing. His work has appeared in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, The New York Times, Forbes.com and The Wall Street Journal.

ANTHONY DOERR Anthony Doerr is the award-winning author of four books, The Shell Collector, About Grace, Four Seasons in Rome, and Memory Wall. His numerous accolades include a Guggenheim Fellowship, an NEA Fellowship, four O. Henry prizes for his short fiction, the 2010 Story Prize and two Pushcart Prizes. In 2007, the literary magazine Granta named him one of the “21 Best Young American Novelists.” His book reviews have also appeared in the New York Times and Der Spiegel.

FIROOZEH DUMAS Firoozeh Dumas wrote a collection of colorful stories, inspired by her father, as a gift for her children. In 2003, the stories were published as Funny in Farsi. The book quickly ascended the Los Angeles Times and the San Francisco Chronicle bestseller lists and was a finalist for the PEN/USA award in 2004. Ms. Dumas is the first Middle Eastern woman to be named as a finalist for the Thurber Prize for American Humor. She is a regular contributor to NPR and has written for the Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, and Good Housekeeping.

ANDREW ROSS SORKIN Andrew Ross Sorkin is an author, columnist and editor at The New York Times and a leading voice on Wall Street and corporate America.
