Event Navigation

“All stories have three acts. In the first, put your hero up a tree. In the second, throw rocks at the hero. In the third, get the hero out of the tree.”

— George B. Cohan

Beginning, middle, end. Since Aristotle’s Poetics, the “three-act” has ruled story structure in the western world. How does it work in writing for the big screen? How can it inform the story you want to tell? Help you adapt a story you’ve written? This class is for people who want to think like a screenwriter, understand how story = structure, and start writing scenes and developing scripts. We’ll explore story, scene, and character arcs; obstacles and stakes, rising tension, and resolution; how to create characters by putting them under pressure and making them choose; finding the DNA of your story.

This is a 6-week workshop that will meet on the following Tuesdays from 6:30 – 8:30 PM:

  • May 7th
  • May 14th
  • May 21st
  • May 28th
  • June 4th
  • June 11th
