Event Navigation

Laura Roghaar is the November and December writer in residence at the Library! at Bown Crossing! Join her and interact with Vox Poplar, a large, sculptural, scroll of paper with a bas-relief image of Cottonwood trees carved into the face that feeds into a manual typewriter.

About Laura:

Laura Roghaar is a poet, educator, and arts administrator. She serves as the Poetry Out Loud coordinator for Idaho and teaches writing at The Cabin. She holds an MFA in poetry from Boise State and her chapbook of poems, SISTERHOUSE, is out from dancing girl press.

On her approach to Vox Poplar:

While I’m with Vox Poplar, I will work on my current nest of poems about animality and care. I want to hear from folks in the library who are up to exploring care relations too. What’s the experience of proceeding carefully, and also carelessly? What’s care like for me, and for the people and animals who share space with us? I plan to bring with me slips of blank paper printed with the questions: Would you tell about a time when you needed care? I’ll invite folks to talk to me about these memories or, if they’d rather, fold them into easter eggs to crack later. As a part of my engagement with the library, I’ll also donate a free evening writing workshop for caregivers.
