Event Navigation

Lyd Havens is the March and April writer in residence at the Library! at Bown Crossing! Join them and interact with Vox Poplar, a large, sculptural, scroll of paper with a bas-relief image of Cottonwood trees carved into the face that feeds into a manual typewriter mounted to a pedestal.

About Lyd Havens:

Lyd Havens is a nationally touring poet and performer originally from Tucson, AZ. Their work has previously been published in Winter Tangerine, Tinderbox Poetry Journal, and Glass: a Journal of Poetry, among others. They are the author of the collection Survive Like the Water (Rising Phoenix Press, 2017), as well as the chapbook I Gave Birth to All the Ghosts Here (Nostrovia! Press, 2018). Lyd is currently studying Creative Writing at Boise State University and serves as an organizer with Big Tree Arts and the Boise Poetry Slam.

About their approach to Vox Poplar:

I would love for my time at Vox Poplar to be somewhat interactive: I picture having conversations with people at the Library!, and writing poems inspired by those conversations (so please come talk to me!). Recently, I’ve started writing more poems that link various parts of history to the modern world: both as a general setting and as something specific to my own life. I imagine I’ll be referring to books and any other resources I can find in the Library! and elsewhere. Much like a lot of my work, I hope Vox Poplar will be a hodgepodge of research, dialogue, joy, and fun.
