As writers, each workshop member will create a new and original work of short fiction, get feedback from their workshop peers and the teaching-writer, Christian Winn, then head back into the revision process to polish and refine their narratives with an eye toward publication.
We will also be studying, and breaking down, short stories and novel excerpts, paying particular attention to how great fiction writers create compelling characters, vivid scenes, dynamic plots, masterful dialogue, and true heart in their work. A handful of writing exercises and prompts will be distributed to the writers as well. Our goal will be to learn from writers like Miranda July, Jennifer Egan Claire Vaye Watkins, Lauren Groff, Richard Ford, George Saunders, Jesmyn Ward, Tony Early and more, with the idea of employing many of their stylistic moves and practices in our own fiction as we all bring new stories into the world.
This is a 6-week workshop that will meet on the following Thursdays from 6:30 – 8:30 PM:
- June 13th
- June 20th
- June 27th
- July 11th
- July 18th
- July 25th
