The Cabin’s Readings & Conversations lecture series brings some of the best authors, thinkers, rabble-rousers, and cultural icons to Boise each year. Join us at the Morrison Center or the Egyptian Theatre for a chance to hear Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award winners, MacArthur Fellows, and bestseller book-club phenomena share their work, personal stories, and commentary on current events and culture.
Readings & Conversations is proudly supported by the following partners:

Tara Westover, February 13, 2019
David Grann, March 13, 2019
Jennifer Egan, April 25, 2019
Purchasing tickets to the series
Tickets to the 2018/2019 lecture series are first available to Cabin members who also hold lecture tickets from the previous year. Season tickets are available for renewal after the close of the last lecture of the season. This year, that date is April 25th, 2018 beginning at 9 PM.
Cabin members who have renewed their membership before April 23rd will receive a link in their email at 9 PM with members-only, renewals-only access to next year’s tickets online. This access will not be available through our website or to the general public.
Didn’t renew your membership in advance? Cabin members who renew their membership after the 23rd will receive this email link within 24 hours or the next business day. Or, give The Cabin a call or stop by and visit to renew tickets for next year’s series and your membership at the same time.
A note about seats
Main Floor ticketholders (Bestseller, Literary Circle, and Main Floor sections) will almost always receive the same seats. On the rare occasion we must move you to accommodate patrons with accessibility requests, we will do our best to notify you of the change. Please understand we attempt to accommodate hundreds of ticketholders sharing limited space with unique and individual circumstances, and that any changes made are truly unavoidable.
Main Floor ticketholders cannot renew more series tickets than previously purchased the year before.
There is a one-month courtesy window during which Main Floor ticket holders can renew their seats. Readings & Conversations is quite popular, so we can’t “hold on” to your seats for longer than these four weeks. Therefore, after these four weeks, unclaimed Main Floor seats will be released to lecture hopefuls eager to move closer to the stage.
Balcony seats are available for renewal on a first-purchase, first-pick basis. The same seats are not guaranteed year-after-year. The surest way to secure your favorite spot is to renew your membership early, then renew your tickets when you receive the members-only email link.
Balcony ticketholders are allowed to renew up to the number of series tickets that corresponds to their membership level, if they so choose. You can find that information here.
Standing Room Only ticketholders cannot renew more series tickets than previously purchased the year before. SRO ticketholders are encouraged to take any empty seats on the main floor or in the balcony after introductions and once the lecture has begun. If the actual seat holder appears late, please relinquish your spot and find a new empty seat. SRO tickeholders are rarely left standing!
If you are new to the series, season tickets in the balcony will be available to Cabin members starting on Friday, June 1st. Season tickets are available to members at a limit that corresponds to their current membership level. Learn more about Cabin membership and all its perks here.
Season tickets will become available to the general public starting Friday, June 22nd.

Are you a commitment-phobe? Or did our lecture sell out? The Cabin makes it a habit to sell last-minute, returned season tickets in the lobby beginning at 6:30 PM the night of each lecture.* These seats can be anywhere in the theater, and are sold on a first-purchase, best availability basis. The Cabin has yet to turn any Rush ticket hopeful away. $15/members & students, $20/general public.
*Egyptian Theatre lecture events only
Season tickets are available for pick-up one month preceding the first lecture. This means they become available starting on Monday, September 10th. Any tickets not picked up will be moved to the venue and waiting for you in the lobby. This is true for each lecture. They are easy to pick up on your way inside. For coffee bribes and smiles, season tickets can be mailed upon request.
If you lost your tickets, email us! We can have them reprinted and waiting for you at Will Call in the lobby on your way in to the lecture. Email Tyler at email@example.com.
Giving your tickets to a friend? There’s no need to notify us. Your friend just needs to know what name the tickets are under at Will Call.
“Will Call” is a fancy name for The Cabin table in the lobby where Hillary, Tyler, and other Cabin staff or volunteers are ready to pass out pre-purchased tickets, sell Rush tickets, and help with anything else.
Going to be out of town or coming down with a cold? Season ticket holders can donate individual lecture tickets back to The Cabin. Any tickets donated back to The Cabin at least 24 hours ahead of lecture time will receive a donation acknowledgement! Thanks, guys!
It’s lecture time
Doors open 1 hour before the start time on your ticket. For Egyptian Theatre lectures, this means 6:30 PM. For Morrison Center lectures, this means 7 PM.
Seating is assigned. Seats are not always the same lecture-to-lecture, so be sure to check your ticket, which has your seat printed on it. Ask a friendly volunteer for help finding your seat.
Own books written by the evening’s speaker? Bring them along! Most authors agree to greet patrons and sign books in the lobby following their lecture. Don’t own the books, but want to? Our partner Rediscovered Books sells copies of author books before and after the lecture, so you can buy one there and still get it signed.
A Readings & Conversations lecture is typically an original talk by the author on the subject of their choice. It can be about their current book, upcoming projects, past works, relevant cultural issues, and more. The talk runs for about an hour, and is followed by a 20ish minute Q&A from the audience, moderated by Kurt, The Cabin’s Executive Director.

Please keep in mind The Cabin closes early on lecture days to prepare for the off-site experience, eat some food, and change into fancier duds. Thus, The Cabin will close at 2 PM on R&C days, with Cabin staff becoming available in the venue lobby starting at 6:30 PM.
Special accommodations can be made by contacting Hillary at firstname.lastname@example.org.
